Selecting Hardness and Texture for PU Integral-Skin EV Armrests

Higher Hardness Is Not Always Better

Armrest hardness must be balanced with wall thickness, insert structure and loading. Material that is too soft may lack support, while excessive hardness reduces comfort and can make surface defects more visible. Multiple hardness samples provide a better basis for approval.

Texture Influences Appearance and Demolding

Fine grain, leather grain and anti-slip patterns can be formed directly in the mold. Deeper texture requires better venting, draft and skin integrity, so texture samples should be approved during Huangyan tool development.

Coordinate Inserts and Foam Thickness

Metal or plastic inserts influence foam flow and local wall thickness. Stable locating features and sufficient cover help maintain consistent appearance and performance.

Application Perspective from Taizhou and Zhejiang

The Taizhou facility works with Huangyan tooling and the regional EV supply chain. Parameters in this article should be confirmed against the actual component and operating environment.
